Brotherhood Memorial

In honor of
Brother George N. Reaves

The Brothers of Theta Mu Lambda Chapter mourn the loss of our good Brother George N Reaves. We celebrate his life and the years of committed service to our Fraternity. With deep sadness, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. acknowledges the transition of Past General Treasurer Emeritus Brother George N. Reaves to Omega Chapter on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023. The Chapter also offers its sincerest condolences to the family of Brother Reaves and those close to him.

Brother Reaves, a 1965 Theta Chapter initiate, was an active member of Theta Mu Lambda Chapter and instrumental in the Chapter’s reactivation in 1986. From 1992 through 2009, he served the Fraternity as General Treasurer for 17 years. In recognition of his outstanding service to the Fraternity, the 89th General Convention conferred upon him the title of General Treasurer Emeritus in 2009.

Among his Fraternal accolades, the Fraternity recognized Brother Reaves as the Illinois District and Midwestern Regional Alumni Brother of the Year in 1996 and 1999, respectively. In 2011, he also received the Alpha Award of Merit (the highest award a member of the Fraternity can receive). Brother Reaves was elected as our second chapter president in the early reactivation years of Theta Mu Lambda. He was a trusted, consistent advisor to many Brothers in leadership locally, regionally, and nationally. Brother Reaves was very instrumental in raising funds for the construction of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial that stands prominently in Washington D. C. We take a moment to reflect on his exemplary service, faithful leadership, and the true brotherhood he displayed. We extend our condolences to his wife, Sister Mary Reaves, son, dear Brother Jonathan Reaves, and the entire Reaves family. As Brother Reaves enters our Omega Chapter, we take this opportunity to acknowledge that he will forever remain a part of the fabric of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and Theta Mu Lambda. Farewell, our dear Brother George N. Reaves; rest well.
